A holding site for my interest in bio-fuels:

  • I have converted a 1997 Nissan Vannette 2.3D to run on both vegetable oil and diesel using a kit from ATG in Germany. For more detailed info on this field in general have a look at journey to forever, they have all the details you can eat. So far the kit has worked a dream apart from one problem on Dec 26th 2004 when I forgot to switch back to oil at the end of a journey and left the engine over a cold night. All sorted out relaitvely quickly the day after with a product called "Start Pilot" which you squirt into the air-intake as you start the engine. Lesson 1 - Play by the rules.

  • Here's a presentation I gave in July 2004 in Miltown malbay, Ireland on Bio-diesel and vegetable oil as a fuel. Like half the web, its a work in progress, but I'm getting there.

  • A thought-provoking article which discusses the potential negative impact that a global switch to bio-fuels could have, i.e. that land currently being used to feed people could feed cars instead. My personal take is that we cannot see bio-fuels as a perfect solution given current global-consumption trends. However, in a scenario where policies for reducing overall fuel-consumption are in place, coupled with policies guaranteeing that the fuel market is fed by diverse sources ( e.g. bio-fuels / petroleum / electricity ) bio-fuels still have their place in the sun.

  • Set CURRENTTITLE = Biofuels
